Excel starts very slowly

Velixo Classic

Symptoms

When using Velixo Classic, Excel takes much longer to start. This delay has been seen to be up to one minute and the issue resolves when Velixo is removed.

Cause

All reported instances of this issue have one thing in common: the user/organization uses Cisco Secure Endpoint (cloud-delivered antivirus software). A recent update to that software appears to be performing some sort of time-consuming scan, causing Excel to take a longer time to start than had previously been the case when Velixo Classic is installed.

Workaround

Currently, the only two workarounds for this issue are:

Disabling Cisco Secure Endpoint
Using Velixo NX (instead of Velixo Classic). The Cisco product does not appear to perform the same scanning with the newer NX edition of Velixo.
